You’ll see all kinds of cars, from old classics to new sports cars. There’s live music on the Downtown Sounds stage, and you can even vote for your favorite in the People’s Choice contest.

Walk up and down Main Street, shop at the little stores, and grab a bite at local restaurants or food trucks. There’s something going on all day.

Registration runs from 8 to 10 in the morning. The show goes from 10 to 2:30, with awards at 2. It’s free to come watch, and if you enter a car, it helps out local non-profits.

If you own a home in Upstate South Carolina, including Anderson, Greenville or Greenwood, it’s important to know your septic tank’s location and condition. This helps with maintenance and matters when buying or selling a home. Here’s a simple guide to finding and checking your septic tank, plus the importance of professional inspection.

How to Find Your Septic Tank: Tell-Tale Signs and Strategies

Finding your septic tank can be tricky, especially if you’re new to the home. Here are some ways to help you figure out where it is:

Check property records: Your county health department or permitting office may have records of your septic system, including site plans that show where the tank is located.

Ask previous homeowners or neighbors: If you’re unsure where your tank is, ask prior owners or neighbors with similar homes for clues.

Follow the sewer line: In your basement or crawlspace, find the main sewer pipe and see where it leaves your house. This pipe usually leads straight to the septic tank, which is often 10 to 25 feet from your home’s foundation.

Look for visual cues: The ground above a septic tank might be a bit higher, or the grass could look greener because of extra moisture. You might also see access lids or manhole covers at ground level.

Professional locating services: If you still can’t find your tank, septic companies like our team at Hometown Septic Solutions have special tools like electronic locators and probe rods to find it without harming your yard.

The Value of Professional Septic Inspections

If you’re new to your home or getting ready to sell, having a professional inspect your septic system is a smart move. Here’s what happens during an inspection and why it’s important:

Comprehensive system assessment: Skilled technicians check the whole septic system, including the tank, distribution box, and drain field, for any signs of wear, damage, or leaks.

Health and safety compliance: Inspections make sure your septic system follows local health and safety rules, which helps protect your family and the environment.

Peace of mind for buyers and sellers: If you’re buying, knowing the septic system is in good shape gives you confidence. If you’re selling, a healthy system can boost your property’s value and make the sale go more smoothly.

Camera Inspection and Locating: Minimizing Disturbance, Maximizing Accuracy

Today’s septic inspections often use advanced camera technology. At Hometown Septic Solutions, we use the latest equipment to check and find your septic system parts accurately. Here’s how this helps you:

Accurate diagnostics: With camera inspections, we can look inside pipes and tanks without digging, so we can quickly spot blockages, cracks, or misalignments.

Minimal landscape disruption: By finding the exact spot and condition of your system, we avoid extra digging and help keep your yard looking nice.

Targeted Repairs: When issues are discovered, we fix them right where they are, saving you time, money, and stress.

By combining proactive steps and expert support, managing your septic system becomes straightforward. Whenever you need help in Greenville, Anderson, Greenwood or anywhere in Upstate South Carolina, Hometown Septic Solutions is prepared to support your septic system maintenance needs.

At Hometown Septic Solutions, we often encounter questions about the impact of tree roots on septic systems. As residents of Upstate South Carolina, we’re no strangers to the beauty and diversity of our local flora. So can tree roots damage septic tanks in Upstate South Carolina? Short answer, yes. However, not all trees are created equal when it comes to their potential impact on your septic tank. Let’s dive into the specifics of which trees to watch out for and how you can protect your septic system.

Understanding the Threat

Recent inspections have revealed alarming instances of tree roots infiltrating septic tanks, blocking crucial components like inlet and outlet baffles. This highlights the importance of regular maintenance and inspections. When was the last time you had your septic tank checked or pumped? If it’s been a while, now might be the perfect time to schedule a service with us.

Trees to Be Wary Of

Upstate South Carolina is home to a variety of trees, some of which can pose a significant threat to your septic system. Here are a few to keep an eye on:

Poplars and Eastern Cottonwoods: These trees are notorious for their extensive root networks that grow aggressively both horizontally and vertically. They can cause serious damage to sewer systems and foundations as they search for water.

American Elms: Known for their large, shallow root systems, American Elms can clog sewer lines and drains due to their constant need for a water supply.

Oaks: While slower-growing than some other species, large oaks like water oaks, live oaks, and red oaks have powerful, far-reaching root systems. These can cause significant foundational issues over their long lifespan.

Willows: Although more commonly found in coastal areas, willows are notorious for their extensive and strong roots that aggressively seek out moisture. They can readily invade water lines and sewer pipes, even cracking pavement in their path.

Protecting Your Septic System

Installing a septic system in Anderson County is a crucial step for homeowners who are not connected to a public or community sewer system. South Carolina law mandates site approvals and permits for all septic systems to ensure they are installed correctly and safely, protecting both water quality and public health. Here’s a detailed guide to help you through the process, from initial planning to final installation.

Understanding the Legal Requirements

Before you begin, it’s essential to understand that incorrectly installed septic systems can harm water quality and pose health risks. South Carolina law requires DHEC (South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control) approval and a permit for all septic system installations. Without this permit, your county will not issue a building permit, so it’s a crucial first step in your project.

Preparing for the Application

Determine Water and Sewer Availability
Before purchasing land for your new home, contact your local government to determine water and sewer availability. DHEC provides valuable tips on choosing land suitable for septic systems and residential wells, ensuring you make an informed decision.

Application Fee

The application process begins with a fee of $150. This fee covers the review and processing of your application.

Submitting the Application

Step 1: Online Submission

Submit the Onsite Wastewater System Application (D-1740) online through the ePermitting Portal. Along with the application, you will need to provide a copy of the property’s plat or deed. If you don’t have these documents, DHEC’s website offers guidance on how to obtain them.

Step 2: Review and Acceptance

Your application will be reviewed to ensure all necessary paperwork is included. If everything is in order, your application will be accepted. If additional information is required, you will receive an email notification with instructions on how to review corrections, revise, and resubmit your application.

Site Evaluation and Permit to Construct

Step 3: Site Visit

Using DHEC’s traditional permitting method, a site visit is required. A certified inspector will evaluate the site’s suitability for a septic system. If approved, you will receive a Permit to Construct. If the site is not suitable, the inspector will discuss possible alternatives with you.

Step 4: Installation

Once you have the Permit to Construct, you can contact a licensed onsite wastewater system installer, such as Hometown Septic Solutions, to install your septic system. Their expertise in excavation and installation ensures that the process is handled efficiently and correctly.

Final Inspection

Step 5: Scheduling the Inspection

Before completing the installation, the installer must contact DHEC to schedule an inspection of the septic system before it is covered. If a DHEC inspector does not arrive within 30 minutes of the scheduled time, a licensed installer can proceed with a self-inspection, provided they submit the necessary documentation on the DHEC-approved form D-3978, Contractor Approval to Operate. It’s important to note that DHEC has recently updated the final inspection form, and installers can use the new form after March 1st, 2024.

Permit Expiration and Modifications

Permits to Construct are valid for five years. If you need to renew your permit after this period or make changes to the approved plan, you will need to complete a new application and pay the fee again.

Installing a septic system in Anderson County requires careful planning and adherence to legal requirements. By following these steps and utilizing the services of experts like Hometown Septic Solutions, you can ensure a smooth and successful installation. If you have any questions or need further assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to DHEC or a trusted local septic service provider like Hometown Septic Solutions.

Hey there, Upstate SC neighbors! It’s your friends at Hometown Septic Solutions, and we’re here to talk about something that might not be at the top of your gratitude list—your septic system. But trust us, there’s a lot to be thankful for when it comes to these underground heroes! So, let’s dive in and explore 5 reasons why your septic system deserves a big ol’ “thank you” this year.

It Keeps Your Home Running Smoothly

Imagine this: you’re in the middle of hosting a big family gathering, and suddenly, your plumbing decides to take a break. Not a pretty picture, is it? Well, your septic system works tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure your toilets flush and your sinks drain. It’s like having a silent, unsung hero in your backyard, keeping everything flowing smoothly. So, the next time you enjoy a comfortable bathroom break, give a little nod to your trusty septic system.

It Saves You Money in the Long Run

Sure, maintaining a septic system requires some upkeep, but it’s a lot cheaper than dealing with city sewer bills or unexpected plumbing disasters. Think of it like investing in a good pair of boots—you might spend a bit more upfront, but they’ll last you for years. The same goes for your septic system. With regular maintenance, it can serve you well for decades, saving you from costly repairs and unexpected plumbing emergencies.

It’s an Eco-Friendly Option

In a world where going green is more important than ever, your septic system is doing its part. Unlike city sewer systems, which often require energy-intensive treatment processes, septic systems use natural processes to treat wastewater. This means less energy consumption and a smaller carbon footprint. So, the next time you hear about climate change, remember that your septic system is on the front lines of eco-friendliness!

It Adds Value to Your Home

Believe it or not, a well-maintained septic system can actually increase the value of your home. When potential buyers see that your septic system is in tip-top shape, they know they won’t have to worry about costly repairs or replacements anytime soon. It’s like having a secret weapon in your home’s appeal—one that can make all the difference when it comes time to sell.

It’s Easy to Maintain When You Leave It to Hometown Septic Solutions

Let’s face it, not many people get excited about septic systems. But when you do, you join a special club of homeowners who appreciate the little things in life. And with Hometown Septic Solutions, maintaining your septic system becomes a breeze. Our friendly service and financing options ensure that you can keep your system in top condition without breaking the bank. So, the next time you’re out in your backyard, take a moment to appreciate the hard work your septic system does for you. And remember, if you ever need a helping hand, Hometown Septic Solutions is just a call away.

Happy Thanksgiving, and here’s to many more years of smooth-running septic systems in Upstate SC!

Whether you’re looking to set up shop in your RV on your new plot of land as you build your custom home, plan to use your land for long-term camping or living in your motorhome or camper, or simply want to add a spot for visiting guests or allow campers on your land, you may be looking to get a septic system installed specifically for RVs. Here are a few items to consider:

First and foremost, you’ll need a perc test/inspection from SCDHEC to see if you can legally install a septic system on your property. We can give you direction to get the process started and help with the excavation part of the perc test, ensuring that the process is smooth and efficient.

Once you have the necessary permits, the next consideration is the size of the septic system. The size will depend on the number of people using the RV and the expected duration of stays. A typical RV black tank ranges from 25 to 75 gallons depending on the size of the camper, so you’ll want to make sure your septic system can handle flushing a black tank of that size and you may need a larger system if you plan to host multiple RVs or have extended stays.

Placement is another crucial factor. You’ll want to ensure that the septic system is located in an area that is easily accessible for maintenance and away from any water sources to prevent contamination. It’s also important to consider the layout of your land to ensure that the system is placed in a spot that won’t interfere with your activities or future plans.

Additionally, you’ll need to think about the type of septic system that best suits your needs. Standard systems are common, but there are alternative systems that might be more suitable depending on your soil conditions and the size of your property.

Lastly, consider the long-term maintenance and costs associated with your septic system. Regular inspections and pumping are necessary to keep the system functioning properly and to avoid costly repairs down the line.

If you’re looking to have a new septic system installed for an RV on your property, reach out to Hometown Septic Solutions today! We’re here to help you navigate the process and ensure that your septic system is installed correctly and efficiently.

Welcome to the beautiful Upstate South Carolina, where the pace of life is a bit slower and the neighbors are friendlier. Many transplants from bigger cities are drawn to this region, seeking a more relaxed lifestyle. However, this move often comes with a new responsibility: maintaining a septic system. For those living outside city limits, having a septic tank is commonplace. If you’re new to this setup or need a refresher, here are 5 essential tips to keep your septic tank in tip-top shape, so you won’t need to see us too often—although we’d love to visit!

Regular Pumping

One of the most crucial aspects of septic system maintenance is regular pumping. In Upstate South Carolina, with its varied soil types and weather patterns, it’s recommended to have your septic tank pumped every 3-5 years. This frequency can vary depending on the size of your household and the tank’s capacity. Regular pumping prevents solid buildup and ensures your system operates efficiently.

Use Septic-Safe Products

When it comes to toilet paper, dish soap, and cleaning products, always opt for septic-safe alternatives. Many conventional products contain chemicals and additives that can disrupt the natural bacterial balance in your septic tank. In areas like Greenville, Anderson, and Greenwood, where water usage can be high, using septic-safe products helps maintain the health of your system and prolongs its lifespan.

Minimize Food Debris

Be mindful of what goes down your kitchen sink. Avoid pouring grease, oil, and food scraps into the drain, as these can clog your pipes and disrupt the septic system. Instead, use a compost bin or dispose of food waste in the trash. This practice is especially important in Upstate South Carolina, where many homes rely solely on septic systems for waste management.

Avoid High Water Usage

Running multiple high-water-use appliances simultaneously, such as washing machines and dishwashers, can overload your septic system. Spread out these activities throughout the day to give your system time to process the water. This is particularly relevant in areas with higher water tables, like parts of Upstate South Carolina, where excess water can saturate the drain field.

Proper Chemical Treatment

Using the right chemicals can enhance the performance of your septic system. Enzymatic treatments and bacterial additives can help break down waste more efficiently. However, be cautious and follow the manufacturer’s instructions to avoid overuse, which can be harmful. In the unique climate of Upstate South Carolina, where temperatures can fluctuate, these treatments can help maintain a healthy bacterial environment year-round.

By following these simple tips, you can ensure your septic system remains in good health, providing you with a hassle-free experience in your new Upstate South Carolina home.
